Directions

International visitors from Asia and North America can reach Erfurt most conveniently via the airports Frankfurt (FRA, preferred), Munich (MUC), or Berlin (BER).

Arrival for International Guests (Asia & North America)

  • From Frankfurt (FRA): Direct ICE trains take about 2 hours to Erfurt.
  • From Munich (MUC): Take the S-Bahn or a regional train to Munich Central Station, then an ICE train to Erfurt in approximately 2.5–3 hours.
  • From Berlin (BER): Take the S-Bahn or the airport express to Berlin Central Station, then an ICE train in about 1.5 hours to Erfurt.

 

Arrival for European and German Guests

  • By Plane: European visitors can also use the airports Leipzig/Halle (LEJ) and Erfurt-Weimar (ERF). LEJ offers train connections to Erfurt in about 40 minutes, while ERF has limited domestic and charter flights.
  • By Train: Erfurt is a major ICE hub with direct connections from cities like Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Zurich, and Amsterdam.
  • By Car: Erfurt is well connected via the A4 and A71 motorways.
  • By Bus: Several long-distance bus companies offer routes to Erfurt from major European cities.
